Traditional Cumbrian Cooking with Mrs Simkins is Out!
It’s been a while since Traditional Yorkshire Cooking with Mrs Simkins was published in 2018, but its companion northern recipe book, full of traditional Cumbrian recipes, is out now, just in time for Christmas.
These are traditional recipes made across the towns and villages of Cumbria, once Cumberland and Westmorland and the Furness region of Lancashire, that fed the families of hard-working people, given a bit of a makeover for modern kitchens.
Look out for recipes such as Westmorland Tatie Pot, Clap Cakes, Brampton Pease Pudding, Cumberland Old Mutton Saucer Pie, Fairy Toasts, Tatie Pasty and Wordsworth’s favourite Grasmere-Style Gingerbread, Cloud Cake, Sand Cake, Westmorland Kings and Skiddaw Shortcake.
Find out the curious Cumbrian custom once practised at weddings with Cumbrian Bridecake and how Cumbrian Courting Cake differs from other northern
courting cakes.
